Daniel Sherrin was an accomplished British painter of landscapes and maritime subjects. He spent the majority of his life in Seasalter, near Whitstable in Kent, where he became a local celebrity of repute.

His father, John Sherrin RI RWS (1819-1896), was a painter of delicate still lifes in watercolour and trained by the distinguished William Henry Hunt (1790-1864). BIOGRAPHY
“Daniel Sherrin was active from 1895 to 1922. His landscapes, such as Morning near Reigate Heath; Golden Autumn Days; Summer's Day, are sensitive depictions of the changing light and atmosphere, according to the time of day or season. Sherrin, also a painter of seascapes, was able to render detailed and informed renditions of ships, as in Three-master in High Wind; In Full Sail” (Benezit, Dictionary of Artists, Gründ, 2006).

Artist Name Daniel Sherrin (1868-1942) TitleClose of Day DescriptionThis lovely large Victorian landscape oil painting is by noted British artist Daniel Sherrin. Painted circa 1900 the painting is entitled Close of Day. The composition details a landscape view from a hill into the distance. In the foreground a figure comes into view, carrying firewood or faggots on their back. To the left are majestic pines and then one's eye travels over the drop of the land and the tops of trees to the countryside stretching out into the twilight distance. A really peaceful, calming painting that one could look upon for years and never get tired of looking at.
