    "It's definitely not something you can just forget," said two-time Olympian defender Jessica Steffens. "You want to put it behind you but it doesn't just go away. We have definitely used that as fuel. Even the girls who are first-timers, they know."

    Hewko leads liquid assets

    Corona del Mar High senior Camille Hewko may not have put up the best numbers in Orange County girls’ water polo this season, but she probably had as much influence on the success of her team as any player in the county.

    Hewko boasts formidable strength, good speed and a blistering shot from the two-meter slot. She was a consistent scoring threat who drew a lot of attention from defenses and opened things up for other players.

    What else makes her the such a stand-out player?

    “Her fearlessness, physical strength and understanding of the game,” Corona del Mar Coach Aaron Chaney said.

    Hewko, who tallied a team-high 60 goals and added 30 assists this season, was voted the Most Valuable Player of the Santa Barbara Tournament, the Southern California Tournament and the Pacific Coast League. She also was named the CIF Southern Section Division II Co-Player of the Year with teammate Tumua Anae.
