  • Michael John Edens Sr. died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

    Michael was born Jan. 23, 1948, in International Falls, Minn., and developed a life-long love of Rainy Lake and the area.

    He was a 1966 graduate of Falls High School.

    He graduated with honors from Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, Minn., from the two-year welding course. It was a proud day for him when approximately 25 years later both of his sons also graduated with honors from his alma mater in Minneapolis.

    Mike served active duty in the United States Marine Corps from Nov. 29, 1966, to Nov. 20, 1970. He earned the following medals and awards: National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/4*; Combat Action Ribbon; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm & Frame; Vietnam Campaign Medal 2/device; Rifle Marksman Badge.     William Eden, 1st Baron Auckland, PC (Ire), FRS (3 April 1745 – 28 May 1814) was a British diplomat and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1774 to 1793.[1]

    Early life

    A member of the influential Eden family, Auckland was a younger son of Sir Robert Eden, 3rd Baronet, of Windlestone Hall, County Durham, and Mary, daughter of William Davison. His brothers included Sir John Eden, 4th Baronet, also an MP; Sir Robert Eden, 1st Baronet, of Maryland, the last royal Governor of Maryland; and Morton Eden, 1st Baron Henley, diplomat.

    He was educated at Durham School, Eton and Christ Church, Oxford,[2] and was called to the bar, Middle Temple, in 1768.

    Career

    In 1771, Auckland published Principles of Penal Law, and soon became a recognized authority on commercial and economic questions. In 1772 he took up an appointment as Under-Secretary of State for
