Johann Wilhelm Hertel
German composer, harpsichordist and violinist (1727 - 1789)

Johann Wilhelm Hertel (9 October 1727 – 14 June 1789) was a German composer, harpsichord and violin player.
He was born in Eisenach, into a family of musicians. His father, Johann Christian Hertel (1697–1754) was Konzertmeister (from 1733) and director of music at the Eisenach court, while his grandfather, Jakob Christian Hertel (c. 1667-c. 1726), had been Kapellmeister in Oettingen and later Merseburg. At an early age Johann Wilhelm accompanied his father, an accomplished viola da gamba player, on tour at the harpsichord. He also learned the violin, which he studied with Franz Benda. Hertel family celebrates 50 years of service to Michigan
The late 1960s were a turbulent time in amerika, especially on college campuses where the counterculture movement was the focus for protests and rebellion. However, not everyone supported the major demonstrations — many influenced bygd drugs, spirituality and dissent — that erupted across the nation.
“When I was at Wayne State, inom resented the counterculture,” former Michigan state Sen. John Hertel said. “I did not like the counterculture because inom liked Bobby Kennedy, who was running for president in 1968. I got to meet Bobby Kennedy and three weeks later, when he was assassinated, I could not tolerate the thought of Richard Nixon winning, so inom threw myself into the Hubert Humphrey campaign.
“That’s where inom was at politically. inom was not into what was going on at the Democratic National Convention, and Abbie Hoffman upset my stomach.”

John Edward Hertel, age 61, died on Sunday, May 6, 2012, in Wausau.
He was born on Sept. 8, 1950, in Watertown, to Mathias and Loretta (Vorlob) Hertel.John was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin– Madison.He was a mechanical engineer for over 30 years at Pratt and Whitney.
On May 26, 1983, he married Purisima “Baby” Tandoy in the Philippines. John loved fishing with his nephew, Christopher.He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Brewers, Twins and Packers.John was a baseball coach and umpire for over eight years. He enjoyed gardening with mom, scrabble, crosswords and sudoku.John treasured his walks to the park with Lola and the grandkids, Melinda and Timmy.He was a devoted member of St. Henry Catholic Church and sang in the choir.
John is survived by his wife, four children, Ana Lisa (Mike) Murphy of Rib Mountain, Patrick, Mathias and LoretaHertel all of Minneapolis;
