Gov. Al-Makura Pardons 35 Convicts Pays Fines For 28 Others- Independent
Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has granted pardon to 35 convicts in the state and paid the fines imposed on 28 others.
Ahdulkarim Kana, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the state made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Lafia.
According to Kana, the governor granted the pardon in the exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section of the Constitution.
He stated that the decision of the governor followed a recommendation by the state Council on Prerogative of Mercy.
“The governor has approved the remission of sentences to 35 convicts in the various prison formations in the state based on powers conferred on him,
Kana said that the governor had also paid the fines imposed on 28 other convicts who were given options of fines by some courts but could not afford to pay.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has granted pardon to 35 prisoners and paid fines of 28 convicts that were given option of fine by various courts but could not pay.
Al-Makura, who extended the gesture at an event in the state Ministry of Justice, said government everywhere enacted and made laws for the guidance of citizens with a view to make the society safe and comfortable for all.

Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State on Friday granted pardon to 63 prisoners serving various jail terms in the state, under the prerogative of mercy.
Al-Makura, represented by his deputy Mr Silas Agara announced this at a ceremony at Ministry of Justice, Lafia adding that his ledning was committed to decongesting prisons in the state.
He said government was concerned over growing number of inmates across the fem prisons in the state, saying that the ledning would partner relevant agencies to ensure the prisons were decongested.
