Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, ex-ISI chief, takes premature retirement
Former spymaster says will hang uniform on Oct 9 as COAS Gen Qamar Bajwa has accepted his resignation
Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, the former director general of the country’s premier spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has confirmed that army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has accepted his request for premature retirement.
“I would take a break and spend time with my family,” said Lt Gen Rizwan, who is currently President of the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, while speaking exclusively to Daily Express.

“All official formalities and paperwork have been completed,” added Lt Gen Rizwan, who will doff his military uniform on October 9, 2017. However, he would not say anything about his future plans.

RAWALPINDI: Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, considered a close ally of Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif, has been promoted to the brev of Director General Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) on Monday among other promotions within the army ranks.
The announcement was made by Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major Asim Bajwa on Twitter:
The announcement comes as current ISI ledare Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam and five lieutenant generals are scheduled to retire from service in the first week of October.
The military officers retiring in October include ISI chief Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam, Mangla corps commander Lt-Gen Tariq Khan, Gujranwala corps commander Lt-Gen Saleem Nawaz, Peshawar corps commander Lt-Gen Khalid Rabbani and Karachi corps commander Lt-Gen Sajjad Ghani.

Rawalpindi- Major General Rizwan Akhtar was named new Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief today.
Akhtar had worked as DG Rangers Sindh in the past. The new chief will take charge once DG ISI Zaheerul Islam retires from his post. Six Major Generals of Pakistan Army have been promoted to the rank of Lt. Generals.
According to ISPR those promoted include Major General Rizwan Akhtar, Major General Hilal Hussain, Major General Ghayur Mahmood, Major General Nazir Butt, Major General Navid Mukhtar and Major General Hidayatur Rehman and Major General Nazir But.
Lt. General Hilal Hussain has been appointed Corps Commander Mangla, Lt. General Ghayyur Mahmood Corps Commander Gujranwala, Lt. General Hidayatur Rehman Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt. General Navid Mukhtar Corps Commander Karachi and Lt. General Nazir Butt Inspector General Communication and Information Technology.
