Vanguard CEO Buckley To Assume Chairman Role In January
VALLEY FORGE, PA (November 1, 2018) – Vanguard CEO Tim Buckley will succeed Bill McNabb as Chairman of the $5.3 trillion investment management firm, effective January 1, 2019. He becomes the fourth chairman in the firm’s 43-year history.
Mr. Buckley assumed the CEO position in January 2018, after serving in a number of senior management roles, including as the firm’s Chief Investment Officer from 2013 to 2017, head of Vanguard’s Retail Investor Group from 2006 to 2012, and Chief Information Officer from 2001 to 2006. Elected as a principal in 1998, Mr. Buckley joined Vanguard in 1991 as assistant to then-CEO John C. Bogle.
Mr. Buckley earned an A.B. in economics from Harvard in 1991, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1996. He served as chairman of the board of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from 2011 to 2017.

Timothy Charles Buckley III (February 14, 1947 – June 29, 1975) was an American musician. He began his career based in folk rock, but subsequently experimented with genres such as psychedelia, jazz, the avant-garde, and funk paired with his unique five-octave vocal range.[5]
His commercial peak came with the 1969 album Happy Sad, reaching No. 81 on the charts, while his experimental 1970 skiva Starsailor went on to become a cult classic.[4] The latter contained his best known song, "Song to the Siren."
Buckley died at the age of 28 from a heroin and morphine overdose. He left behind one biological son, Jeff, who himself was a highly regarded singer who died young, as well as an adopted son, Taylor.

Earlier this month, we learned that William McNabb, Vanguard Group’s current Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, will step down as CEO, effective January 1, 2018. McNabb will stay on as Chairman of Vanguard, focusing on international growth for the world’s second largest asset manager. He will also continue as Chairman of the Investment Company Institute (ICI).
McNabb, Vanguard’s third CEO, will use the rest of the year to help transition the firm’s leadership to Tim Buckley, Vanguard’s former soon to be Vanguard’s fourth ever Chief Executive Officer.
