    Canadian musician Alex Calder was scheduled to release a new album next week (Oct. 20) via Captured Tracks, but the label confirms that he has been dropped and they will not be proceeding with the release of the album as planned after being alerted to a sexual assault allegation.     Recently, an allegation of sexual assault against Alex Calder has come to our attention. We have been working tirelessly to speak with all parties involved and are no longer working with Alex moving forward. We feel it is important to preserve the privacy of the third party involved, and therefore we do not feel it is our place as company to share any further details. We will not be proceeding with the release of his album, previously set to come out October 20th.

Where Demarco displayed a kind of Cheshire cat grin and self-assured creepiness that came off more endearing than problematic, Alex Calder&#;s solo work was darker and harder to pin down. Time, his debut EP with Captured Tracks was a quick shot of woozy pop that was more in tune with label mate Chris Cohen or a strung out Nick Drake than his buddy Demarco. Full-length Strange Dreams was more of that, but at a larger scale. Even his weird Mold Boy release felt like dark confessions under the guise of some lazy fever dream.

    In his statement, Calder describes "an incident that occurred in " with an unnamed individual which he incorrectly believed was consensual. "This encounter did not meet the criteria for getting consent. I abused this individ, and inom have not held myself accountable for this," he writes.

    Calder apologizes "for any shame, humiliation, or social isolation that they have experienced following my actions." He has put his music career and "all creative pursuits" on hold, including his album release and upcoming tour dates, and will attend counselling and consent training.
