Granthi, four daughters end lives
by jumping into canal

Mr Harnek Singh (48), a gurdwara priest living near Jyoti Swarup Sahib gurdwara Sirhind, his wife Rajinder Kaur (45), four daughters and a son jumped into Bhakra Canal near Sondha village today morning with the intention of ending their lives. Ms Rajinder Kaur and son Paramjit Singh (11) were saved by villager Jaswinder Singh, but Mr Harnek Singh and his four daughters died. A tiff between the family of Mr Harnek Singh and his father Hardial Singh (75) was said to have caused the tragedy.
According to Mr Shiv Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr Harnek Singh with his wife Rajinder Kaur, daughters Jagdeep Kaur (22), a student of BA final, Amandeep Kaur (20), a student of BA II, Hardeep Kaur (17), a student of Class XII , Sukhbir Kaur (14), a student of Class IX at Baba Dyal Puri College and Sirhind City school and son Paramjit Singh (11), a student of Class VII of MG School

Man awarded death penalty for killing 4 of a family in Punjab
The CBI court on Tuesday awarded a death penalty to Fatehgarh Sahib man for killing four members of a family by pushing them into Sirhind canal in 2004.
“To be hanged till death”, said the special CBI judge NS Gill while pronouncing the verdict to Khushwinder Singh as he sat emotionless in court. Khushwinder is already on a death row for murdering six relatives of his wife in 2012.
On June 4, 2004, Kulwant Singh,40, a commission agent, his wife Harjit Kaur, 38, their daughter Ramandeep Kaur, 15, and son Avrinder Singh, 14, mysteriously disappeared from their house at Sanghol. Later, their car was recovered from the outskirts of Suhavi village near Khushwinder’s house.
Kulwant, who had sold his land for Rs 34 lakh , was planning to visit a gurudwara at Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur (HP) with his family when Khushwinder lured them into meeting a godman and killed them all.
