Acharya Bhikshu (1726–1803) was the founder and first spiritual head of the Shwetambar Terepanth sect of Jainism.
The various beliefs and teachings of the religious orders of those times greatly influenced his thinking. He studied and analysed the various disciplines of the Jain tro and on this grund he compiled his own ideologies and principles of the Jain way of life. Based on the doctrines propagated, Acharya Bhikshu rigorously followed the principles. It was this way of life that was demonstrated bygd Acharya Bhikshu which became the foundation principle of Terapanth. Born in V.S. 1783 at Kantaliya, Rajasthan, this dynamic personality became the disciple of Sthanakvasi Acharya Sri Raghunathji in the year 1805. Within 8 years of his sainthood he realized that the sacrifices required to attain NIRVANA (Moksh/Supreme Enlightenment) would not be within reach with the leniency practiced by his teacher. Even after persistant indication towards the misconduct of the rules guiding sainthood, his teacher paid no attention to the issue, thus forcing this preacher of truth and sacrifice to part ways with his teacher who in turn cursed him to suffer. 12 saints followed suite and when a poet called them TERAPANTH (Group of 13 saints in Hindi slang), he kneeled and bowed to his faith saying Hey Prabho! Yeh Tearapanth!(Hey Lord this is your way, the way that leads to you!)

Origin of Terāpanth
Acharya Mahapragya Pravas Samiti 's president Shri Babulal Sekhani along with his team requesting Acharya Shri to extend his Bidasar stay The emergence and rise of Ācārya Bhikshu in the history of Jain religion is no less than a phenomenon. He was born in the Vikrama saṁvata 1783. In v.s. 1808, he took initiation as a monk in Sthānakavāsī sect founded Terāpantha in v.s. 1817 and left for his heavenly abode in v.s. 1860. The picture that he has drawn of his period of Vikrama's 19th century resembles 8-9th Vikrama's century of Haribhadrasuri. He has given the account of laxity in monk's life like this:
- The spirit of renunciation is decreasing. The workload of an elephant has been put on the backs of asses. They are exhausted and have thrown away that burden.[1]
